Is it Toxic? The Devil Card as Feelings in Relationships

Okay, so today I decided to dive into something a little different – tarot cards. Specifically, I wanted to explore the “Devil” card and what it might represent in terms of feelings. I’m not a professional tarot reader or anything, just someone curious about this stuff. So, I figured, why not document my little experiment?

Getting Started

First, I grabbed my tarot deck. It’s a pretty standard Rider-Waite deck I picked up a while back. I shuffled the cards a few times, just kind of focusing on the idea of “feelings” and the Devil card in particular. I’m not gonna lie, the Devil card always looks a bit intimidating with its imagery, so I was curious what I’d uncover.

The Draw

After shuffling, I laid out the cards. The Devil card will be my major focus.

Is it Toxic? The Devil Card as Feelings in Relationships

I focused on the imagery of the Devil card, and the two humans that seem to be controlled by the Devil.

My Interpretation

Here’s what came to mind as I looked at the card:

  • Temptation and Addiction: This was the most obvious one. The Devil card often represents being trapped by desires, whether it’s for material things, unhealthy relationships, or addictive behaviors. As a feeling, this could manifest as a strong craving or a sense of being controlled by something outside yourself.
  • Obsession: I felt like this card could also signify an unhealthy obsession with a person or a situation. It’s that feeling of being completely consumed by something, to the point where it’s all you can think about.
  • Feeling Trapped: The chains on the figures in the card really stood out to me. This could represent feeling trapped in a situation or a relationship, feeling like you have no control or agency.
  • Materialism: The Devil is sometimes associated with materialism and the pursuit of worldly pleasures. As a feeling, this could be a strong desire for possessions or status, maybe even a feeling of emptiness despite having those things.
  • Self-Sabotage: I also thought about how the Devil card can represent self-destructive behaviors. This could be the feeling of knowing something is bad for you, but doing it anyway. That little voice in your head that says, “Just one more…”

Putting It All Together

So after I put down all my own interpretations, the Devil card, when it comes to feelings, seems to paint a picture of being controlled by something, whether it’s internal desires or external circumstances. I realized that It’s not necessarily about “evil” feelings, but more about a lack of freedom and a sense of being bound.

I think this little exercise was pretty interesting. It definitely gave me a new perspective on the Devil card and how it might relate to the complex world of human emotions. Maybe I’ll try this again with other cards!
