Okay, so today I decided to figure out what this “135” thing is all about. I’ve seen it pop up here and there, mostly in productivity circles, and I was curious. So, I dove in.
My “135” Experiment
First, I needed to know what it actually was. A quick search revealed it’s a pretty simple idea: You pick one big thing, three medium things, and five little things to accomplish each day. Sounds easy enough, right?
So, I grabbed my trusty notebook and started brainstorming. For my “big thing,” I chose to finally tackle organizing my messy digital files. It’s been looming over me for weeks!
Then came the medium tasks. I listed:
- Draft that blog post I’ve been putting off.
- Do a solid 30-minute workout.
- Call my grandma (it’s been too long).
Finally, the five small tasks. These were things that I could realistically knock out quickly:
- Clear my email inbox.
- Water the plants.
- Do a quick tidy-up of my desk.
- Prepare tomorrow’s breakfast.
- Read at least 1 chapter before going to bed.
How It Went Down
I started with the digital file mess. It was a beast, but knowing it was my one big thing helped me focus. I set a timer and just plowed through it. Took a couple of hours, but man, it felt good to get that done!
I took a little tea break, which I used to tick off, then jumped into my medium * blog post took some effort, but I got a decent draft done. The workout was tough, but refreshing. And catching up with my grandma? Definitely the highlight of my day.
The small tasks? Easy peasy. I sprinkled them throughout the day, and it felt like mini-wins every time I checked one off.
My Takeaway
Honestly, I’m kind of digging this 135 thing. It’s not rocket science, but it’s a simple way to structure my day and feel like I’m actually getting stuff * keeps things manageable, and prevents that feeling of being overwhelmed by a mile-long to-do list.
I’m not saying it’s a magic bullet, but it’s a helpful framework. It’s all about prioritizing and being realistic about what you can achieve in a day. I’ll definitely be trying this again tomorrow!
