What is a Free Former (Easy Guide to Understanding Free Form Content Creation)

Okay, so today I tried this thing called “free-form writing.” I’d heard about it somewhere, you know, just write whatever comes to your mind without stopping. Sounded interesting, so I thought, why not give it a shot?

First, I got my laptop out, opened up a blank document. Then, I set a timer on my phone. I decided to go for 15 minutes just like some people recommended. I figured that’s not too long, not too short, just enough time to see what this whole thing is about.

I hit start on the timer and just started typing. My fingers were moving, I didn’t even know what I was writing at first. I wrote about my day, the weather, that weird dream I had last night. Anything that popped into my head, I just typed it out. It felt weird at first, not thinking about making sense or proper sentences. Like my brain was just spilling out onto the screen.

  • I set my timer for 15 minutes.
  • I began to type anything that popped into my brain.
  • I kept going, non-stop, until the timer went off.

Honestly, it was kind of messy. My thoughts were all over the place. I jumped from one topic to another, like, talking about my breakfast and then suddenly wondering about aliens. It was a real brain dump, no filter, just pure, unfiltered thoughts.

And then, the timer went off. I stopped typing and looked at what I had written. It was a jumbled mess, for sure. Some parts were complete gibberish, other parts were actually kind of interesting. It was like looking into my own mind, a snapshot of my thoughts in that moment.

After that, I tried to read through it, see if I could find anything useful. I circled a few phrases that I liked, underlined some ideas that seemed cool. It was like digging through a pile of random stuff and finding a few hidden treasures. I guess that’s the point, right? To uncover some unexpected ideas or thoughts you wouldn’t normally think of.

I guess it’s not about writing something perfect. It’s more about letting your mind wander and see where it takes you.

Will I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun experiment. It’s definitely a different way to approach writing, to just let go and see what happens. If you’re ever feeling stuck or just want to try something new, give it a shot. You might be surprised at what you come up with.
